RONGOTEA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Rongotea School picnic, which had been postponed on two or three occasions through inclemency of the weather, was concluded on Saturday last at the homestead of Mr H. J. Ransom, where everything- for the success and pleasure of the whole afrair had been arranged, including a “switchback railway,” “whirligig,” swings, etc. A large number of pupils assembled in the Square at 10.30 a.m. and were conveyed to the grounds in an electric lorry kindly loaned by the Rongotea Dairy Co. Races of all descriptions were freely indulged in, and all arrived home tired after having had a good time. It is understood the Rongotea Glee Club are shortly holding a meeting to discuss plans for the forthcoming winter. They anticipate an increased membership this season and hope to produce a more ambitious operetta than was attempted last year. All wish them every success, as sports, amusements, or any recreation that is both beautiful and elevating is sadly lacking in Rongotea. Oh, why don’t the “City Fathers” wake up?
