[The “ Times” car leaves Palmerston at 4 o’clock each morning, and runs via Aokautere and Woodville, to Dannevirke, and returning via Te Rehunga and Kiritaki to Woodville, Pahiatua, and Ballance, and thence to Palmerston via the Gorge, 105 miles each day. Mr Robertson, who has been acting stationmaster for sometime, has gone to Wellington, and Mr Cracknell, of Waipawa, is now in charge for the time being. Members of the local Egg Circle have something- to cackle about—geting over half-a-crown a dozen for eggs. Rev. J. Richards and Mrs Richards, of Dannevirke, volunteered for mission work in the Solomon Islands. The medical report on the case was considered by the recent conference, with the result that Mr Richards will continue to remain here. It is hoped to erect a new Catholic Church in Dannevirke, and a bazaar in aid of the building fund is to be held here. It will be opened by the Mayor. The South School picnic will be held in the Recreation Ground to-day. The picnic at Te Rehunga also takes place to-day if the weather permits. There will be a dance at night in the Public Hall. Ormondville beat Waipukurau at cricket, by nine wickets and ten runs. Chautauqua performances have been well attended. They have given considerable instruction and enjoyment to patrons. The season concluded on Tuesday night with a health talk and concert. Rev. O. Dean and the Misses Dean, formerly of Ormondville, have left for England. Mrs D. Wilson will represent Ormondville at the W.C.T.U. Convention in Wellington. Miss N. Smdill, of Ormondville, has been awarded her "D” certificate. Alterations and additions in brick and concrete are to be carried out to the Ruahine Club. Mr P. Hoy, returned soldier, formerly of the Soldiers’ Institute, has sold his wood and coal business to Mr B. Dean. The Heretaunga School picnic, a very popular local fixture, is to be held in Mr Rayner’s paddock, Ross Road, on Friday. A dance will be held in the evening.
