BOROUGH COUNCIL.

.At ithe meeting of the Council there were present: The Mayor (Mr Murdoch), Councillors McMillan, Gardner-, Scott and Richardson. Correspondence was read from Mr Newman, Ml',, re electric scheme, loan, and valuation of the borough.—Resolved to hold the matter of electric application till next meeting. It was resolved to accept C. Clifford's resignation as borough foreman. 1 his resignation brought about a heated discussion between the Mayor and Cr Scott, the Mayor being accused ot Interteiing with the foreman, over the top of the Road Committee. The Mayor explained that on account ot the illness of the chairman ot the Road Committee, he had taken upon himself to engage the services of the loreman to attend to a borough haystack that had been wet through and had to be taken down and dried to save tnc hay- The Mayor said he had no apology to make for this, and would do it again if the occasion arose.— It was resolved to call applications for working foreman. Cr Scott, who Ls soon to leave loi Australia, put in his resignation. The Mayor expressed regret at Cr Scott s departure. He eulogised the councillor for his outspoken utterances on all occasions. A motion accepting the resignation with regret and wishing Cr Scott the best of good things to. the future was passed by the Mayo, and councillors. Cr Scott said he was sorry to leave. He had. enjoyed his time as councillor, and whatever he had said it was always what he believed to be the right thing, but at the same time he bore no personal animositv to those he criticised. Jt was resolved that in future no goods be obtained for the Council except under the handwriting ot the Town Clerk. The matter of obtaining a medical man for the town and district, was considered.—lt was resolved to write the County Council about the matter of a subsidy.
