TRANSPORT STRIKE.
IF IMMEDIATE INCREASE NOT
GRANTED.
TAujst. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sundav, 12.0) LONDON, March 3.
A lightning strike, at two days' notice, is threatened by 175,000 transport workers, to enforce their demand for an extra 10/ weekly. The joint committee of the Road Transport Industry had considered their demand, and is unable to agree, so the National Transport Workers' Federation has determined on an immediate strike if the Federated Societies are wdling. The action will involve th«e holding up of the docks and railways. The last advance of 4/- was given in August to bring the wages up to 34/ above the pre-war figure. Carters, motor-men, garage and stable-work-ers are affected. The masters claim that the Ministry of Labour should make the wages awards obligatory on all employers in the industry.
