SPORTING.
NOTES. The acceptances received by the Manawatu Racing Club for their summer meeting- must be very- pleasing both to the Club and the handicapper, Mr J. E. Ilenrys. The course at Awapuni has never been in better fettle, and with good fields and good weather there should he a. record holidaycrowd in attendance during the three days of racing. The Woodville Jockey Club’s summer meeting opens to-day, and aI L though the meeting is being held at a rather busy season of the year, there should be a good attendance, as there is bound to be some good racing. Proceedings open with the Hurdle Race of II; miles, for which there arc nine acceptors. The two Woodvilletrained horses Zeus 10.S and Rail Home 10.2 arc bound to be well supported, but they will have to be at their best to beat Rienzi 9.1 and Tuticorn 9.0, who have bt-en showing quite respectable form over the small sticks. There is a big field in the Trial Plate of G furlongs. Quite a number of those engaged are two-year-olds and Avili thus have a big advantage on the Ay-eights. On this season’s form Tessa res and Fortune Teller look to be the best. The WoodA-ille Handicap of l?i miles is a hard race to pick and contains the names of some of our best Irandicap horses. Hurry Up 7.13, Pacific Slope 7.G and Bagdad 7.10 are Avell treated. There is a fine field in the Grandstand Hack Handicap of 7 furlongs. Elcullus 5.9, Amberine 7.3 and Self Alliance 7.0 Avili all run Aveli. There are some smart ones in the Electric Handicap of 5 furlongs, tor which Murihiku 7.12, Samarang 7.G and Aclmyra 8.0 appear to be avcll treated. The Flying Hack Handicap of G furlongs will, be a great race if all the acceptors go to the post. Swanee River 7.10, SAveet Memory- S.G and Lord Astolat 5.5 Avili haA'e hosts of friends. The Borough Welter Handicap of 7 furlongs has filled well and should be a good contest taetAveon Vermillion 8.9, Mo,mac 8.0 and Lord Muskerry 9.3. The Hack- Welter of one mile is not a strong quality- field, and the best of those engaged appear to be Dick 8.6, Raiijand 9.5, and Woodlark 8.9. Although the fact has not been advertised a train carrying passengers for Woodville Avili lea\'c at 9.55 a.m., landing at Woodville in plenty ol time to see the first race. A train Avili leave on the return journey at 5.52 p.m. Those who wish to use this train should get in early, as the accommodation is limited.
