GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

A meeting of the general committee /of the Alana watu Agricultural and 1 astoral Association was held this morning, -Mr 11. Akers (president) being in the chair. The Hereford Herd Book Society, oi England, notified its intention of donating a gold medal value £5 5s to the winner ol the Hereford Cup each year. .Air E. Armstrong, of Akito, wrote intimating his intention to donate a 25 guinea cup for most points in the fat cattle classes. The agents for Messrs Weddells notified that tile firm would replace the W eddel Cup that had boon won outright by tho Levin Dairy Company last year. The secretary reported that a clock had boon donated by Mr J. Liiiklafccr for tho Association’s office. Donations were also acknowledged as follows : —Sir James Wilson £5 5s prize money, Mr T., O. Haycock prize money £3, Mr li. A. Matthews prize mbney and proceeds of sale of wool £4 14s 6d, Mr A. Matthews £3 10s judges’ expenses, Mr J. W. Lonsdale £3 prize money,' Defence Department 250-man cooker. Votes of thanks were accorded by acclamation to tho various donors.

A letter was received from tho Minister of Defence’s private score tan’, thanking the Association for the interest and trouble it had taken in connection with the Cook Islands educational exhibit sent to the recent Show. The writer stated that the Hon. Dr. Pomare was also delighted at the success gained at the Show by the Native children of the islands.

It was decided, on the motion of Mr J. M. Johnston, that the secretary commune cate with tho Education Department with the view of extending the same opportunities to tho school children of Fiji and Samoa. Mr Johnston said it had been suggested that tho children’s prize exhibits in future be sent round amongst the various schools FEILDING AND THE SHOW.

The Feihling A. and P. Association forwarded the following resolution passed by the Association; “ Thai this Society expresses its disapproval at the action taken by the Feilding Holiday Committee in not closing for people’s day of tho Show of the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association.” The president said it was very thoughtful of the Feilding Association to express an opinion on this matter, and he moved that a letter of thanks bo sent to the Feilding Association. Mr J. Knight said that the trouble was

that there was no train to bring the people from Feilding if there was a half-holiday, but the president said that a special train had been put on. Mr Knight said he did not think the same trouble would happen again at Feilding. The president’s motion was carried. GENERAL. Letters were received from Messrs K. W. Dalrymple and W. G. Lyons, thanking the Association for letters of welcome on their return from active service. Thirty-eight new members were elected. A report of the proceedings of the Board of Agriculture was received from Dr. Reakes. Dr. C. J. Reakes, Director-General of the, Depatment of Agriculture, forwarded a copy of extracts from the evidence given before the committee on agriculture and forestry, United States Senate, on American meat-packers’ methods. —Members expressed the opinion that a copy of the report should be in the hands of all farmers, and it was decided to endeavour to obtain additional copies of same. SHOW DATES. Mr J. M. Johnston moved, on account of Mr D- . Buchanan: .“That\ the Spring Show/1920 dates bo November 3, 4 and 5,” this being seconded by Mr F. v S. Mcßae. Mr A. L. Wheeler said he would like the Association to'hold anautupin show, which should bo .worked in connection with a motor .carnival. If they held an autumn show in 1921' the spring show dates should be altered to October, 1920. Ho moved, as an amendment, that the dates. of the spring show be not ■ decided ■ upon until they found out the possibilities of an autumn show in 1921. He suggested that an autumn show could be hold in February, 1921, saying that by February or March, next they could find, out the prospects of getting the motor show here. After,,a little further, dispussjon the motion by Mr Johnston was carried. It was decided that the next general committee meeting he held on January 27. SPRING SHOW STATEMENT. A statement in connection with the spring show was road by Mr J. M. Johnston, the statement showing that there was a credit balance in connection with the show of £1358 4s 7d, but Mr Johnston said that if it had not been for the donations received, amounting to £1471 12s, there would have been a loss of £ll7 7s sd.
