RAID ON BOOKIES.

“A GILBERTIAiV SITUATION'.” (Per Press Association - *. GISBORNE, Last Night. At the Magistrate’s Court, Robert Roland Kidson and Francis William Erickson -were charged before Mr Barton, 5.351., with using a grocery store as a common gaming house. Kidson was further charged with frequenting Gladstone Road, a public place, for the purpose of betting. The charges were laid as the result' of a police raid. Each accused was fined £25. On the second charge Kidson was fined £l. ’lhe- magistrate said it had been stated by the detective that the telegraph office was used for betting transactions. This was welt known, and the Government did nothing to see that the law wns properly carried out. The position was Gilbert ian.
