MILKING SHORTHORNS.

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association was held at the Showgrounds on Thursday. Mr J. Eodger presided. The president’s annual report congratulated members on the year’s progress and the satisfactory position of the Association, both linancially and numerically. Interest had spread to Canterbury and Southland, and they had enrolled a number of the best breeders in those districts, and that interest had been reflected in the fact that the majority of the A. and P. Associations had included classes for Milking Shorthorns for their shows. Increased activity had also been shown in the North Island, and practically the whole of the North Island A. and P. associations also included the breed, and in all cases the entries justified its importance. The keen demand for high quality animals, and the satisfactory prices realised at pedigree sales, was good evidence that the Association’s efforts to raise the standard quality of the breed w r cre being fully realised. After jiaying £SOO for herd books and prizes to A. and P. associations., there was a credit balance of £2256 17/3, of Nvliicli £IOOO was in 'War Loan certificates, and £OOO in fixed deposit. Since the year ended a further sum of £SOO had been invested in War Loan certificates—a, total of £2IOO invested and bearing interest. There had been 104 new members enrolled, the total membership now r being SSO. The completion of Volume ill., of the Herd Book was now practically in sight, and would be issued-shortly. The total entries w'erc 7148—477 males and 672.1 females. It was gratifying to note the increase in the number of cows put under the S.O. test, and very satisfactory records had been attained. D.S. within an oval had been granted as the Association’s standard brand, and a supply had been ordered from the inspectors. The report was adopted.

The following officers Averc elected: Patron, Mr J. C. Wright (Matopu), president.. Mr A. W. Green (Hamilton) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Parkinson (Opotiki), and Mr S. G. Morgan (Woodvillc); council, Messrs. D. Buick and J. R. Anderson (P.ISr.), and A. Tocker (Fcathcrston); treasurer, Mr D. Buick.

Mr Singleton, Dairy Commissioner, waited on the meeting and addressed them on the matter of regulations of semi-official test, and the issue of second-class certificates. The suggested regulations were approved by the meeting.
