CARROLL FOR ESP. HONOURS. The Manawatu Rugby Union mot last evening. Present: Messrs J. Manning (president), White, D. P. Jones, Carruthers and F. A. Bates. A wire was read from Wellington in which it was asked that Manawatu play Wellington at Palmerston North on September G on conditions that Manawatu play a return visit on the loth.—lt was resolved to reply that Manawatu could not visit Wellington on the 13th if they could not travel by rail, but urging Wellington to play here on Gth, and guaranteed them first call on Manawatu next year. Mr A. M. Ongley was appointed manager of the team to visit Levin on Saturday. Jas. H. Lynskey (a selector of the North Island Rugby representative team) wrote asking the Union to forward the names of players who had chances of getting in the representative team. —The Union decided to submit the name of Carroll (forward). The New Zealand Rugby Football Union (Wellington) forwarded a cheque for' £lO being the amount allocated to the Manawatu Union for the encouragement of school football. The Awahuri Club intimated that owing to the lack of players the junior team ■would withdraw from the competition. The High School junior team also withdrew from the competition, owing to the school vacation. The Western United team was granted permission to play a friendly game with Pirates B on condition they play on the High School grounds. It was decided to declare the thirdgrade competition the winners being the Fcilding District High School team. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. SENIOR. Manawatu v. Horowhenua, at Levin. JUNIORS. Feilding, v. Jackeytown, No. 1, at 3 p.m. Huia v. Kia Ton, No. 2, at 3 p.m. Inn ton v. Western United. No. 3, at 3 p.m. Practice matches are called for every afternoon at 4.30 o ’clock at the Showgrounds for the representative team, which is to visit Levin on Saturday.
