Evidence revealed that accused, who had been on leave from camp, was attending the Woodvlllc races, lire cheques were cashed, but payment was stopped on their presentation in Christchurch, owing to the signature being unlike that of Reuben Lord. It was also stated that accused' was under the influence of liquor at the time of forging the signature. Mr Oram, who appeared for accused, objected to the admission of a statement made by accused to the Christchurch police.
