PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
A meeting of the local Patriotic feo ciotv was hold last evening.
The financial statement showed credit balances on the following accounts: General Account £139 4/2, Sick and Wounded Fund £52,708 4/6, Camp Comforts and Equipment Fund £22 9/3, 6th Squad Wellington Mounted Rifles Fund £°9 3/4, Anzac Fund £15,103 6/1, British Ecd Cross Fund £199 12/8, French Rod Cross Fund £203; total credit balance £68,136 8/5. A letter was received from the .|ml- - Board stating that money sent for the benefit of individual units was now placed into a common fund to avoid placing any unit in a favoured position frtfm the rest. —Received. The Minister for Defence wrote regretting that no action could be taken with regard to the question of erecting tablets bearing the names of members of the N.Z.E.F. who had won the \ ictoria Cross. —Received. Several letters were received from returned soldiers acknowledging favours at the hands of the Society. With regard to cases of books sent by the Society to the Samoan Garrison the O.C. wrote acknowledging same and stating that as garrison life was very monotonous, anything in the shape of reading matter would always be acceptable.—Received. _ . . The Defence authorities wrote giving 1 directions with regard to the notification of Patriotic Societies of the arrival of troops. —The chairman said it looked very well oh paper but it was impossible to arrange anything definitely. He moved that the letter be taken as read. —Carried. * Accounts amounting to £340 7/1 wore passed for payment.
