MAY DAY RIOTS.
SOLDIERS COLLIDE WITH CIVILIANS.
[Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Friday, 9.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 1. Soldiers and sailors stormed the May Day Labour demonstration in Madison Square. Police reserves dispersed the crowds, who left three dead. At Cleveland, I.W.W. riots started when the soldiers seized the red flag carried in the procession.
j FIGHTING IN PARIS STREETS
(Received Friday, 11.30 p.m.) PARIS, May 1. Infantry and cavalry have reinforced the gendarmerie to prevent a May Day demonstration at the Place de la Concord. Firemen turned the fire-hoses on the crow'd, who twice broke the military cordons. Many heads w ore broken in the baton charges. Another riotous crotvd gathered at the Place do Longira and shouted ‘ ‘ Down with tho Government! ” The outlook was uglier at nightfall. (Received Saturday, 12.10 a.m.) LONDON, May 2. Tho Paris riots continued at night. Tho demonstrators attempted to barricade tho streets but mounted troops charged the mob. A great number were wounded, including Deputy .Cochin, editor of “ L ’Humanitc, ” and a municipal councillor.
