Lieut. E. J. Butler, of Terrace Street, who recently returned by the Willochra, proceeds overseas again almost immediately by the hospital ship Mahcno on special duty.

Erie Shapcott, the little son of Mr George Shapcott, of the Wellington Harbour Hoard staff, died at Hie Weilington Hospital on Sunday from injuries sustained when he was knocked down by a motor car driven by SurgeonColonel Leahy last Tuesday. Mrs Maurice Hewlett, wife of the celebrated author, arrived in Wellington by the Paloona on Saturday. Mrs Hewlett, who was the first woman avmt...r to be granted an English flying ec t' lchte, is evincing keen interest in the possibilities of seaplane developmcV: in New Zealand.

Michael Mac Donald, an elderly sailor jut signed off the Katunui, was drowned in the Iron Pot at Port Ahuriri yesterday afternoon. He misjudged the distance between the railway trucks and a vessel and was recovered almost instantly by a stevedore named Fnzgibbon, but was dead when, bro.'gh. on to the wharf. The legal businesses of Mr H. Gifford Moore, of Palmerston North, and Messrs Ongley and Kelly, of Feilding, have been amalgamated, and Mr Tremain, of the former firm, has been taken into the partnership. The firm will be known as Gifford Moore, Ongley, Kelly, and Tremain, of Palmerston North and Foilding.

George Dale, aged 04, a carpenter, married, living at Sydenham, hanged himself on Saturday by attaching a piece of thin rope to the back of a door in his house. He had suffered from groat depression, aud left a letter indicating that he intended to commit suicide. At the inquest the coroner found that Dale committed suicide while in a state of melancholia consequent on a nervous breakdown. A private cable message has been received by Mr and Mrs H. Gifford-Mooro that their second son, Bombadicr Russell Gifford-Moorc is returning to New Zealand by the Pakeha, due about May 27th. Bombadicr Moore left with the Sixth Contingent, it being just four years since he first went into camp. After some months in Egypt he waa transferred to France, arriving there in April, 1910, where he continued on active service till after the march to Cologne. He then' toured France.
