NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOKEN OF N.Z.
For a considerable time past the more thoughtful women throughout the Dominion have felt the need of au organised effort to band together the Women's Societies in each centre and affiliate them under an executive which would be empowered to represent them ■on questions more particularly affecting women and children. As a preliminary Step towards this co-operative movement, the women's societies in Auckland, Gisborne, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, formed Local Councils composed of representatives from these societies. After correspondence, it. was resolved to hold a conference in Wellington last Easter, to which accredited delegates from each Local Council were sent. The result of this conference was that a National Council of Women was formed, a Constitution passed and officers elected Since then Wanganui has formed a Local Counci and it is expected that Invercargill w_ll bo the next to organise. . Briefly, the object of the Council is ■to unite all organised socictics . of women for mutual counsel and co-opera-tion and to enable the various organisations to be more conversant with cadi other's work and desires. By its constitution, the Council has no over the branches that constitute it beyond suggestion, counsel and sympathy. _ Its membership consists of all organism societies of women, or of me £ women, which have become affiliated to a Local Council. It is believed that a National Council, representing al organisations of women in all parts of the Dominion, will be able to interpre ■and <nve expression to the wishes of women in a manner and with an authority that would not otherwise be P °Among the societies affiliated to the Council The Society for tbc protection of Women and Children, the Auckland Trained Nurses' Association, the Civic League, the Auckland and «£ A ” t t nlad Girls' Friendly fcocicty the Women Teachers' Assoeiatien tho So r l As^ciat" WolCgtoo S„it "Good.
