BUTTER-FAT CHAMPION

The butter-fat competition at the Wairarapa Show resulted as follows: T. E. Maunsell's Friesian cross — 3.8 test; 98.271 points 1 R. Bassett's Jersey cross—i.O test 94.810 points 2 R. B. Sayers' Friesian cross—3.s test; 85.145 points 3 A. H. and F. Callister's Ayrshire cross—3.9 test; 82.989 points . 4 The cows had to be in charge of the committee for six days, and the competition was based on the last eight milkings. One point was counted for every lOlbs of milk and 7 points for every lib of butter-fat. The "Wairarapa Age" says:—Mr T. E. Maunsell's champion butter-fat cow has established a record that will be hard to beat. She has won the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society's Butter-fat Competition for three successive years, and was runner-up the year before taking the premier position—an unprecedented performance. She has proved a good investment for her owner, having won prizes to the value of over £6O, apart from the profits from her milk. She was purchased at auction as a three-year-old for £7 10s. In winning the competition again this year Mr Maunsell wins outright the Silver Salver and Tea Service (value £25). Mr R. Bassett's cow is runner-up again this year for the socond time in succession.
