QUARRY CARELESSNESS

MANAGER FINED £2O. DUNEDIN, Saturday. Two charges arising out of the recent fatality at Shiel's quarry were heard at the Police Court recently, when Henry James Harrison was charged that being manager in charge of the quarry he failed to securely protect and make safe for persons employed therein a certain excavation in connection with the working of the quarry. The defendant was further charged with not carrying on the working of the quarry so as to prevent dangerous falls. Mr Bartholomew, S.M., gave judgment to-day, convicting defendant on the second charge and a fine was imposed of £2O and easts.
