As a purely co-operative concern the Starr-Bowkctt Building Society claims to stand out on its own. The success of these societies in the Dominion has been very marked. The Auckland Society has 40 groups and now the Palmerston North Society is launching their fifth group. It is surprising to know that by the savings of its members at Is per share per week that no less than £90,000 has been advanced by the Palmerston North Society to its members, and all practically free of interest. The saving in interest alone by members is a considerable item, and has been the means of hundreds of members through the Society’s efforts obtaining and owning their own homes in this district. Persons wishing to take up shares in the new group are notified to apply early for shares, as the group is limited to 500.
