When the Americans captured Epieds they found that the Allied bombardment had so smashed the German troope in the village that they -were indistinguishable from the powdered bricks which were all that remained of the houses. French and British aeroplanes ar<? raining bombs day and night on the German communications in the Marne salient. The French aviators have fought more than 2000 combats in three weeks, and 360 German machines were brought down. Every line of retreat is now under artillery fire night and day.
