WAR PENSIONS
THE BRITISH SCALE.
Certain improvements have been made lately in the British scale of war pensions. The rates are still very much lower than the corresponding New Zealand rates. The changes are intended chiefly to improve the position of children. Previously the British pension rates for children were 5s a week for the -first child, 4s 2d a week for the second, 3s 4d a week for the third, and 2s 6d a week for all others. The hew rates are 6s 8d a week for the first child, 5s a week for the second, and 4s 2d a week for all others. The widow receives 13s 9d a week in all cases. The figures are for the dependants of a private soldier in each case.
