SUDDEN DEATHS.
BOY DIES AT FOOTBALL MATCH. A painfully sudden death occurred at a football match on Saturday afternoon. A boy named William Edwin Rowlands, only son of Mrs E. T. Bowlands, of 73 Broad Street, was watching one of the school matches which were in progress when the ball was kicked out of bounds. The boy put up his arms to take the ball, and while doing so' 1 fell over and expired almost instantly. The deceased, who was a bright little chap of nearly 12 years of age, had been suffering from a weak heart for some time and was in the hands of a medical man. He was a member of All Saints' choir and was a general favourite among his boy and grown-up friends, who will regret to learn of his sudden demise. Mrs Rowlands will also have the sympathy of a number of friends in her sudden bereavement. The funeral will take place to-day, leaving the residence, 73 Broad Street, for the Palmerston North cemetery. OLD RESIDENT SUCCUMBS. An old resident of Palmerston North, Mr John Cameron McWilliam, died suddenly yesterday morning. The deceased, who had been a resident, of this district for about 25 years, followed the occupation of a clerk, and was for many years in the employ of the Manawatu Sash and Door Factory and the Union Timber Co., Ltd. He took a great interest in Caledonian Society matters, and was secretary of the local society for some years. He was also a very old Freemason, and joined the Robert Burns Lodge in Christehurch many years ago. Latterly he was a member of Lodge Manawatu Kilwinning. He was 73 years of age, and leaves a grown-up family of four sons and one daughter. His wife predeceased him some years ago. The funeral will take place at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow, leaving the .Masonic Temple, Church Street, at 2.30 p.m.
