The Rifle Brigade.

DUKE OF CQNNAUGHT COLONEL-IN-CHIEF. /

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Hon. Jas. Allen has received the following telegram from the Governor: "As honorary colonel of the N.Z. Rifle Brigade, His Excellency the Governor has received a telegram notifying him of the fact that with £he approval of His Majesty's Field Marshal His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught and Strathearn has been graciously pleased to assume the appointment of Colonel-in-Chief of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade.!' His Excellency has despatched the following telegram to His Royal Highness: '-'On behalf of all ranks of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade I desitfe to tender to your Royal Highness our respectful congratulations on your assumption of the appointment of Colonel-in : Chief of the regiment and at the same time to assure you of our high appreciation of the honour which you have conferred on us. "—(Signed) Liverpool, Honorary Colonel N.Z. Bifle Brigade."

The Minister stated that His Excellency had also advised him that he had sent a telegram to the BrigadierGeneral commanding the regiment in the field, conveying to him the text of the above telegrams. "I am sure it will be very' gratifying to New Zealand,'' added Mr Allen, "that His Royal Highness, the Duke of Connaught has graeiously assumed the appointment of Colonel-in-Ohief of the Rifle Brigade. I have no doubt it will stimulate the Rifle Brigade to add honours to those they have won already."
