(From Our Own Co-respondent.) Mr Fosella and other have petitions in circulation asking the Borough Council to start a municipal bakery. It is already .signed by upwards of ;300 ratepayers, and is to be presented to the 'meeting oi ! tho Council on Monday next. Mr Connor, one of the teachers at the Levin school, has obtained leave of absence from the Education Board to allow him fco enlist. Mr Mason, accountant at the State Farm, has •also joined the colours, and is accompanied by Messrs. R, C. Saxon Levin). N. H. Campbell (Ohau), J. H. Rankin (Heatherlea), R. L. Bevan (Mana'knu), and R. E. Soper (Ohau). The swimming baths are to be opened on Wednesday next. ?ro charge is to be made for admission on the first day. Following up the proposals outlined recently, the Patriotic Societies in the Mamiwatu are in a fair way of amalgamating. A visit is to bo paid to Manakau next week, and the people in that locality are said to be entirely in sympathy with the scheme.
