Card Tournament.
The final games in the inter-lodge card tournament were played at the Orient Lodge room last night, when the Loyal Manawatu Lodge beat Orient Lodge and the Druids beat the Foresters. By winning their match W Loyal Manawatu Lodge team win the shield for the 1916-17 season. The scores"for the season were: — Loyal Manawatu Lodge—ll points. Druids —10 points. Hibernians —9 points. Foresters —7 points. Orient Lodge—s points. The prizes for the best individual scores during the season were won by Bros. Franklin (Druids), with 50 points; Bro. J. D. Smith (Druids), 49 points, being second, and Bro. Le Cheminant (Loyal Manawatu Lodge) third. At the conclusion of the games the trophies werl handed over to the winners by his' Worship the Mayor, Mr J. A. Nash. ' Bro. H. Sharman received the shield on behalf of the Loyal Manawatu Lodge, who hold the shield for the first time. Matches for the shield have now been played for four years, the Hibernians winning it three times during that period. Bro. Marshall, president of the Friendly Societies Council, in asking the Mayor to hand over the trophies, referred to the good feeling that existed between the various teams, and trusted that when they met again next year the same good feeling would Votes of thanks were passed to the Mayor for presenting the prizes (a duty he had performed for ten years), the donors of the prizes, the secretary of the Council, the caterer, and the hall custodian, the gathering concluding with the singing of the National Anthem.
