SHOOTING NOTES
(By "SPOTTER.") The recent meeting at Trentham was attended by 16 members of Linton Kifle Club. The tyros did well, getting second place in the teams match. W. Thompson was second in the aggregate. All but two of the 16 won money. Marshall was handicapped through being unable to get practice with the aperture before the meeting. However with a bit of practice he will "get there" all right. N. Wells is a mystery to local shots. He usually makes a big bid for first place at the wrong end lately, but the way lie sticks to it should be an example to the younger shots, some of whom are soon disheartened. Fred. Mayo says he went to Trentham for experience and reports that he got it, especially in the wind on the first day. No. 1 team was a fine one and won by 12 points. No. 2 came to grief at the 600 yards range and were right out of it. Local men are putting in practice for the local meeting on the 22iul and 23rd.
In spite of the heavy rain on Saturday, 15 Linton and about 10 Manawatu men held a practice. Edwards, one of Linton's youngest members put on 32 at 300 and a possible at 500 yards. Several other good scores were made by members of both teams.
Manawatu Club are improving fast, and with a bit of attention to the finer points are going to make good shots. This Club is composed of real good sports who not only take an interest in their own Club, but are always willing to work in with the other Club, wh'e'i makes the practice a pleasure to everyone. It would do them a lot of good to shoot through the local meeting. Several of their members should get into the prize list, especially as the tyros are well catered for. They should also enter a team, as any of the local shots would lie only too pleased to coach them in the match.
New targets are being prepared for the meeting. To keep down the ex pnse the members are making them in spare time. A visit from some ot* the Wednesday men while work is on would be a pleasant surprise. Many hands make lighr work. 1 am informed that one or two local shots are champions at dodging their turn at marking. Every sport should take his share of the work.
The local range is now looking its best. Tlic caretaker Tins removed all the rushes and the mounds are now clean and in splendid order. Anyone wanting practice for the Tango .should take a trip from the ->"0 yards range to ("00 through our lovely park while flring is taking place at the long range_ Dodging the stumps and jumping the trees and branches gives one any amount of exercise.
Entries close for the meeting on \\ednesdav next.
