Details of the destruction of three German batteries north of the Aisne state that a Uhlan patrol discovered a French convoy, and posted three batteries commanding the road. The French discovered the trap, and sent two batteries of 75's, which silenced the German guns in a few minutes. The havoc was terrible. The guns> were smashed ihto fragments, and 200' lay around thpm. THE BRITISH ADVANCE. Received 9.50 p.m. PARIS, Oct. 28, Official.—The British have advanced to Passchendaele. GERMANS BLACKMAILING A PRINCE. PARIS, Oct. 28. The Germans have occupied the Prince of Monaco's Chateau de Marchis, near Rheims, and threatened to blow it up unless he paid two and a half million francs. AVIATOR PAULHAN. DESTROYS A GERMAN AEROPLANE. i Received 9.50 p.m. Paulhan, at a height of 8000 feet, traversed the German lines towards Amiens, and and destroyed a German aeroplane. The enemy's bullets hit his motor, and BPaulhan descended near a French force. Uhlans appeared, and Paulhan 'a mechanic worked the mitrailleuse in co-operation with the infantry, and the enemy were driven off. GERMANS STRENGTHEN; S© DO FRENCH. Received 10.40 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 28. The Times' Berne correspondent reports that the Germans have been largely reinforced in Alsace, and the French have strengthened the surroundings ot Belfort. ALLIES' SATISFACTORY REPORT. PARIS, Oct. 28. A communique says: —The German attacks between Nieuport and Arras were much less vigorous on Tuesday. Our position everywhere ,is maintained. We progressed north and east of Ypres, also between Cambrai and near La Bassee and Arras. The Geri mans attempted a very violent night ' offensive in Craon'ne region, but were repulsed. We continued the advance at Woevre, between Apriemont and "St. Michael, and also into Loportre wood., PARIS, Oct. 28. Official—The enemy's two night attacks in Dixmude district were repuls'ed. The enemy's efforts on. Nieuport aud Dixmude front are apparently moderating. The Allies' offensive continues northwards of Ypres. There hj; s been slight progress on our part between La Bassee and Lens.
