LONDON, June 2

The Whit Monday pageant procession of Catholic Guilds in Preston was refused permission to carry a-statue of the Madonna and Child. The holders persisted, however, believing they had legal rights. The crowds surged along the route and oranges, eggs and stones were thrown. A man tried to. overthrow the statue but was knocked out. 800-hoos drowned an enthusiastic demonstration by the majority of the spectators.
