Although the weather was unfavourable Manwatu ladies had a most enjoyable time at Wanganui on Friday, when they defeated Wanganui in the aggregate, securing six games out of ten, one being halved. In the ante-penultimate round of the golf tourney at Sandwich, Humphries beat Phillips, 2 up and 1 to play; Martin Smith beat Graham, :'> and 2; Hazlet beat Kolesar, 1 up; Jenkins beat Hunter, 2 and 1. In the semi-finals Hazlet beat Humphries, 1 up; Jenkins beat Martin Smitbj 2 nad 1, In tlie third round Gillies had an easy victory over Weaver. He gave a superb display, Weaver being 7 down. At the turn Gillies had 5 holes in fours, and 4 holes in threes. He could have done the sixth hole iri 2, but, feared a stymie at the eighth hole. This recalled flustruggle between these two players in the fifth round of the championship of 1910, when Gillies was defeated. Playing against Gillies, Graham turned one up.
