CANTEEN SCANDALS

The trial of the accused persons in connection with the Army canteen contracts scandals —in which six quar-ter-masters, two sergeants, a major, and eight eivilans are charged that in February, 1{)03, and on other occasions they conspired that money should corruptly be given as an inducement to favour Lipton's contracts —has concluded at the Old Bailey.

Owing to the Judge ruling that defendants were agents of the Crown they all, following their counsel's advice, pleaded guilty. Sentence was deferred.
