N.Z. HOLSTEIN FRIESIAN ASSOCIATION.
♦ A meeting of the Council of the above was held at Palaierston last night. Present —Messrs Newton King (President, in the chair), J. Liggins, F. H. Leonard, W. I. Lovelock, and A. H. Street.

Hooker, Cambridge. Mr W. M. Singleton waited on the Council and discussed the amplification of the rules in connection with the semi-official testing of pure-bred cows for the coming season. After discussing the matter with Mr Singleton, these were approved.
It was resolved to adopt the American rule, "Colours that have entry in the Herd Book" as follows —(1) Solid black, (2) solid white, (3) black switch, (4) solid black with, white on belly only, (5) black on legs beginning at feet and extending to knees with white interspersed, (7) gry or mixed black and white generally prevailing, (8) patches of other colour than black or white, red, brown, dun, etc., (9) red'and white.
A letter was read from the live stock division of the Department of Agriculture, re standard marks for Stock Breeders' Association, but it was not considered of use to this Association.
The secretary of the Hblstein-Frie-sian Association of America wrote complimenting the Association on the fine lot of cattle contained in vol. 11. of the N.Z. Herd Book.
The treasurer (Mr Liggins) submitted a statement of accounts, showing the balance of assets to be considerably over £I,OOO.
It was decided to hold the annual general meeting of members at the A. and P. committee room, Palmerston, on Wednesday, June 19, at 7.30 (Winter Show week). It was resolved to donate a gold medal to each of the Holstein-Frie-sian divisions in the semi-offieia) testing, for cow or heifers calving after July Ist nest, for highest production of butter fat in the next yearly lactation period. The official list of judges was revised, the names of Messrs S. Hodge (Papatoetoe), F. Hopping (Glen Oroua), T. Wright (Rongotea), and J. Clark (Hamilton) being added to the list. Messrs Liggins, Lovelock and ihe secretary were appointed a sub-com-mittee to arrange for the printing of vol. 111. of the Herd Book. A considerable quantity of routine business was also transacted. The Editing Committee met and went through the entries for vol. 111.
