MR FISHER'S FOXTON MEETING.

v To the .Editor. Sir, —Seeing that you claim to conduct your paper independent of any | political party, I would like to claim | a small space in your valuable paper j to prove to your readers that you are jail you profess to be. In order to I prove the independence of your paper j I will give you some of the facts of j what actually took place at the Hon. jF.M. B. Fisher's meeting at Foxton last night, and ask your readers to | compare them with your report of the I same. For the veracity of my statej ments I will refer your readers to the j Mayor of Foxton, who was chairman lof the meeting. At the close of the meeting which j was a very large one, questions were | askea answere d, after which a j member OJ au<^ence moved a mo-

' tion that the' no qojjdence in thv°- P resent Government, i expressed co confidence in the - member. . an amendment x * wed that a eart 7 v °te of ti given to the or fii'a srddfcfc'PSS*. The chairman Steted that bjftrdly be taken c* 13 amend&fcht rather as two i 3°* tions, at 1 the san*i* time saying he" < would put the -am.e«diiHent first and ' asked the audience'to earry it by acclamation. He then* proceeded to i put the motion and : asked those in fa-

vour to stand up. At. tMs point an appeal was made to the chairman to repeat the motion, as there were a number in the hall who did not hear it, but this he refused to do. However, when the vote was taken, although there were a large number who did not vote at all, it was plainly seen that the motion of no-confi-dence was carried by a fair majority. Hoping that in order to show that your paper is really independent, you will publish the above facts.—l am, etc.,

W. McLENNAN. Palmerston, March 31, 1914. (The message referred to was published as received from the Press Association agent at Foxton.—Ed.)
