Count Mau*iel Lrlient'/al and a young lady, both experience! mountaineers, essayed a dangerous ascent of the Rax Mountains, .near the Semmering Pass. Nearing the top Lilfenthal was seized with cramp in the arms, begged the girl to massage them despite the fact that they were clinginz to an almost perpendicular rock. She did bo without sucoess. Count Lilienthal suddenly fell 900 feet.
His bo'y was shockingly mutilated, and his terrified companion had great difficulty in completing the ascent and procuring assistance.
