POSTAL EXTENSIONS.
TELEPHONE IMPROVEMENTS
INSPECTING OFFICIALS. On Satarday, Mr G B. Dall. Inspector of Post Offices, assisted by Mr J. Orchiston, Chief Telegraph Engineer; Mr A E. Shrimpton, Tele.raph Enginear for the Wellington district.; Mr T. BnckJey, Uhief Electrician; and Mr J. D. Lonch, Pablio Works Engineer, visited Palmeraton to investigate requests of the Chamber of Commerce regarding requirements and facilities at the local post office. The Press representafives were net allowed to be present and subsequently the result of the deliberations were communicated by the Chairman of the Cnamber of Commerce (Mr M. A. Eliott). Matters disc ssed embraced the installation of a metallic circuit in connection with the telephone exchange; the early completion of copper wire and ext a wires for telephone use to Wellington; telephone communication with Hawke'a Bay and Wairarapa during the day; want of room in the Ma ey Order and Savings Bank Department; the raisin? if Palmerst n to the status of a chief post office; <*elivery of mails from the Auckland express, an > other matters.
Tfce replies receivel were considered by the deputation as quite satisfactory.
The question of enlargement of the Palmerston post office to meet the greatly increased business is also under consideration.
