I Mr L. Stowe. Clerk of Parliament, and father of Dr. Stowe, las to undergo an operation, and he will be away from his duties in Parliament Bnildiugs for at least ti ree weeks. Port O aimers lost one of its very old residents on We nesday by the death of Mr George McLune Smyth, in his 75t t year. The deceased, wo was a teamster of considerable repute in Otago's early days, had for some months past been in delicate health. Mr Steadman, accordant at Messrs Barraud and Abrahams, wo )t a been on two month" visit to Australia, i-etcrned to Palmerston yesterday.
