BEER BOTLES AND WATERLOO.
REVELRY BY NIGHT. "You know this place pretty* well," said Mr M'Gratii to Detective Casseils at the Wellington Supreme Court on Wednesday. "It is part of your district?" referring to an area where the householders have uames such as Hop Fun and Wun Yung. "Yes; it's part of my electorate," returned the detective. "What sort of a place is it?"— "It's a pretty hot shop. " "It wouldn't surprise you to find a beer bottle there?" —"It would be an empty one.'' "It would surprise you if you didn't see bottles about?"—" Yes; there's generally some kind of drinking going on." "Bottles flying about?"—" Yes; there's usually some sort of revelry at night. Reminds you of the night before the battlefof Waterloo " "I wasn't there, so I can't say. Seems to have been like the night after St. Patrick's Day." "You don't suggest," said his Honour, "that Chinamen celebrate St. Patrick's Day?"
