MASTERS' NEW DUTIES. A "TALL ORDER." A point of unusual interest occupied the attention of College street school committee members last eveniug. affecting the welfare of the pupils and a periodical report of tne headmaster thereon. The headmaster read an extiact from the New Zealand Gazette, which he termed a rather "tall order," involving no end of trouble and time on the part of the teachers. The schedule requires the headmaster to supply in regard to every pupil the following information : His class. Note if backward. Attendance, If irregular, give cause, Height (in centimetres), Height (in kilograms), Chest measurement (in centimetres ), Inspiration, Expiration, Sight right eye, Sight left eye, Hearing right and left ear, Breathing, Teeth, Glands, 1 Also whether the pupil suffered from measles, whooping cough, chicken- pox, scarlet fever, "mumps, diptheria, heumatism, fits, any other illness or defpets. Any eruptional feature in the child's behavionr'or progress, Any consumption in the family? The occupation of father or mother or both. As to whether the pupil works before or after school, and if so at what occupation. A member of the committee asked whether the whole thing was "a joke.'' "No joke to the teachers," remarked the chairman.
The committee generally considered the whole thiag too ridiculous to entertain and decided to let the matter stand over till next meeting.
