Groves Captured.
AT TERRACE .END. A MIDNIGHT SURPRISE. Groves, one -bf the two men who : recently escaped from the I aimerston gaol, was recaptured last night. It appears that the police, after searching fruitlessly over a large area of the North Island bounded by Dannevirke, Murton, Foxton, and Otaki in respective directions, suddenly narrowed in their forces around a certain cottage at Terrace The objective was reached at about one o'clock this morning. At that hour four police officersDetective Quirke, Acting-Detective Sweeney, and Constables Gleeson and Thompson—were at the premises. Two of them remained outside to cut off any retreat, while the other two entered the cottage. There they found their man. Groves had apparently been sleeping in a bed but was found on the floor beneath another bed. He gave no trouble. , s t , He will probably be brought before the Magistrate this morning.
