The South Canterbury J. 0. '■ autumn meeting commenced to-day in fine weather with a record attendance. The tote handled £11,562 as against £6,343 last year. Results:— Atipua Hurdles, 1% miles—Daylight Bill 1, Goldpin 2, Redwing 3. Also started Cardiff, Warsaw, Stone Ginger, Gay Lawless, Ribstone Pippin, Simon Pure, King's Piide, Lass Ashore. Won by half a length. King's Pride fell heavily, the rider, J. R. Kean, being rather seriously hurt. Time 2.49 1-5. Rosewill Handicap, 6 furlongs.— First Glance 1, Bobert Bell 2, Fairlie 3. Also started—Vid, Warlight, Red Pennon, Naughty Nancy. Won easily by two lengths. Time 1.16 1-5. Smithfield Handicap, 4 furlongs— Irish Gift 1, Stepmaid 2, Maple Leaf 3. Also started—Oxenhope, Lupulite, Lord Soult, Goldwave, Mosgiel, Safety Pin, Mahuri, Golightly, Otakeho, Teviot, Ohapi, Sir Patrick, Goldfish. Won by half a length. Time 50 1-5.
Timaru Cup, 1% miles—Thrax 1, Kilmeny 2, Sunbeam 3. Also started —Seekashore, Mumura, Gold Coin, Russo, St. Kevin. Mumura and Sunbeam led field most of the way. At tne turn for home Thrax and Kilmenny moved up and drew ahead at the distance. Time 2.8 1-5.
