BOAG'S BIG WIN.

HINDS PLUCKY ATTEMPT

A Wellington exchange makes the following ieference to the Truutham Motor Sports Perhaps tne most exciting iace of the day was the inter-island championship, of 10 miles. In this event all interest was centred on two competitors, viz., E. F. C. Hinds and A. D. Boag (both of Palmerston North). In all there were fonr starters, the other two being E. C. Bender (Wellington) and N. S. Hyslop (Hastings). The quartette started from the scratch mark, and Boag, on a 7 h.p. Matchless machine, secured the lead, with Hinds, on 7 h.p. Indian, next, and Bender and Hyslop, both on 7 h.p. Indians, following in that ouler. After going about three miles, Hyslop, who got a bad start, withdrew, and from then onwards tho race was between Boag and Hinds. Boag kept to tne rails on the bends, and Hinds, who was going at what appeared to be a terrific speed, was about two hundred yards in the rear at the bend wnere the bump was. Hinds gained considerable ground each time, and as the two riders passed the starter, who announced that they were on the last lap, the spectators cheered and shouted with excitement. Hinds was now very close to Boag, and everyone was of opinion that the coming bend would put Hinds in the lead. But the unexpected happened. Both were going "all out," but just as Hinds seemed about to obtain his well deserved lead, his machine skidded. The crowd then fully expected an accident, but Hinds stuck to his machine, and saved himself lrom a nasty fall. As he regained control the spectators cheered him loudly. By this time, however, Boag had sufficient lead to bring him home first, Hinds, who was not so very far in the rear, came second, and Bender, who was some distance away third. Boag was loudly cheered as he rushed past the winning post first. open handicap of fifteen miles was well contested, and Hinds (scr) on his 7 h.p. Indian, proved an easy winner.

A. J. Le Comte (fiOsec) who came second easily, was unfortunate enough to meet with an accident just after he passed the winning post. Le Comte was just going round the bead where the bump is, when his machine skidded, and in an endeavour to steady himself and the machine, the handles twisted, and the rider losing control, fell heavily on to the ground. He was stunned by the fall, but did not receive any internal injury. He was carried off the field and attended by a doctor, but was afterwards able to proceed home.
