HALF-HOLIDAY AT WELLINGTON.
INSUFFICIEN T SIGNATURES.
(Prep# Association.—By Telegraph. Wellington, Last Night. A scrutiny of names to a petition asking for a poll on the Saturday half-holiday question has shown that of 6570 signatures attacned to the requisition only 2673 were passed as valid.
Mr Palmer, Town Clerk, reporting to the City Council, stated that the total number of electors on the combined rolls, including Karori, Onslow, Miramar, and Johnsonville, is 27,578, and of these ten per cent, was necessary for the holding of the poll, so that the valid signatures were 84 short. The Town Clerk, therefore, states he is unable to issue instructions for the poll to be taken
