TOWNSMEN HONOURED.
It would no; be fitting to allow to pass by unnoticed the worthy representation Palmerston has had in two important conferences in the Empire city this week. Mr John Bett has been presiding at the New Zealand Coach Builders' Association, and his ihoughtful presidential address and bis contribution of a paper —the latter having been widely commented upou—were potent factors in giving the conference standing and dignity. The second instance is the re-election of Mr S. Jickell, Bor ugh Engineer, to the presidency of the conference of local body engineers. It is said that Palmerston lacks local patriotism but we feel sure citizens wid notice with satisfaction the high regard in which their representatives are h Id and the appreciation it betokens of those in prominence in this town.
