PROFESSORS RESIGN.

(Press Association.—By Telegraph", Auckland, Last Night. Regret and surprise were expressed at a meeting of the Auckland Univeristy College Council to-day, when it received the resignations of Prof. F. D. Brown (who holds the chairs of chemistry and physics) and Prof. A. P. W. Thomas (who holds the chairs of biology and geology). Botli have been professors at the College since its inception, thirty years ago. Professor Brown explained that the increasing effort he found necessary in order to carry out his duties warned him it was time to retire. He desires to resign at the end of February, 1914. Professor Thomas said he intended to resign owing to the heavy and increasing duties, which imposed a heavy strain upon him, while hig sight also had suffered. The Council expressed very great regret and carried resolutions recording the great and earnest wore done by both professors for so many years.
