SAVE ME FROM MY FRIENDS.

To the Editor. . Sir.—l have been shamefully and cruelly treated, in fact utterly deserted? and that after having receiver! every encouragement to come to this flourishing city. An agitation on my behalf was started, by a few —who evidently desired a monument for after generations, to admire—my case was laid before the council and a small majority were influenced in my favour. were made as to my respectability and the probable profit that would accrue to the town for mv services were taken advantage of. It was then resolved to put my claims before the ratepayers and a poll be taken. H I admit that up till thenar did not think I had a hope, not a sir ell of a chance. . Yet fortunately for me (as I thought) iust a day or two before the poll, a panic seized the town. My supporters raised an alarming report that a rich syndicate had quietly resolved to start an immense motor service to serve every house in town and grab the country likewise. This meant—of course—my annihilation. But the scheme was entirely overthrown, and my friends rallied up strong voting for my installation by a substantial majority. Now comes tne tragic part of the drama. From that fiery polling day, up till the present time my support ers have utterly failed me and I do not seem to have a soul left to plead my cause or turn up the electric to show my good points; they are all dumb dogs! And now lam pretty certain that on Thursday the 20th my goose will be cooked entirely. "Oh where are my schoolmates gone?" Why Oh why did they lead me on? or why do .they not come out into the limelight and expatiate on the surplus revenue that will accrue to the borough while I am skipping and scintillating through the town and bobbing in and out of the interesting subway. lam a lost child, deserted by my parents, in fact. I am, etc., NON EST.
