M. Bannatyne and Company, and is a recognised authority on financial matters. Mr Upton, it is understood, has been appointed at the request of the mercantile community of Auckland as the representative of the northern end of the Nortn Island. Mr Upton, who is 68 years of age, is a native of England, and since his connection with the northern city has filled many important public officesMayor of Auckland Chairman of th« Education Board, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Trustee of the Auckland Savings Bank, President of the South British Insurance Company and Chairman of the Ga* Company, besides being a recognised authority on financial matters.
