MR PAYNE'S AMBITIOUS ' SCHEME. WHAT MR VEITOH THINKS (Press Auociatlon). ffaupanni, Last Night. Mr W. A. Veitcli, M.P., interviewed by a representative of the Chronicle with referercs ti statements and proposals made by Mr Payne, membsr for Grey Lyuo, siid that so far as that gentleman was concerned he could take no exception to what Mr Payne cliosa to say or propose, providing he spoke (or himself alone and not for the Labor members as a body.

He(MrVeitch) oould not agree with the ambitions scheme outlined by Mr Payne, for the reason that he did not regard it bs bsiug at all practicable 01 even reasonable in theory, The opinions voiced by Mr Payne were not the opiniens of the majority of the Libor members. The time had not arrived for making any pnblio statements bs to the intentions of the Labor party. It was first of ail necessary for the Labor members to meet in conference and discuss the position from every point of view. He felt sore that this would be done and he had every confidence that whatever conrss might be finally deoided upon the Labor membsis would prove themsslves able to work together in a manner creditable to themselves and to the Parliament and people ot New Zealand.
