Manawatu Kennel Club.

i ..—. | Fine Exhibition at the ShowI ground

The Manawatu Kennel Club's Show is held tinder the auspices of the Manawatu A. aud P. Association every gyear at the Spring Show, Dogdom is always a popular, if it is not the most peaceful resort at the Shows, and yesterday was no exception in this respect. A liner lot of dogs it is hard for trie unexpert |to imagine, but the judge, Mr Jas. Kyle, of Ohristcliurch, while admitting that it was probably equal To Dunedin and any other show in the Dominion, was inclined to Rive the laurels to the show held iu tho Cathedral Oity. In the bull dog clas3 Messrs Menzies and F. E. Watson shared iiononrs. lu the pnppy classes (limit) Mr Watson soored first and third, and Mr Meuzies second. Mr Menzies' was inclined to button his ears somewhat. In another puppy class Mr Menzies scored over Mr Watson's dog owing to leg defects. Mr Watson scored eight first?. Mr K?le said his dogs were splendid animals, bnt hardly in trie best of condition. The setters were a good class, and the winner of the open J class was probably the best setter iu Now Zealand at tho present time. The same doggwon first prize in the sporting class aud the ladies' bracelet. The pointers' were' same cf the best Mr Kyle had ever judged in New Zealand. They weie a good j lot of collies, and Mr J, Q. Parker scored heavily in this class. His' dog Mosgiel Stanton, winner of the open rough coatad■class, won mainly' in ear carriage, the runner-up being defective in this respect, though lie was in better condition a nd body. In the puppies Mr Parker's Sensation was a grand type with/splendid head and coat. The runner-up, Mr 0. Pritchard's Stcnleigh Swallow, was also a fine dog. The third prize winner, D. Monro's Celtic King, was deficient as to- hind quarters. All three had good hearts. The spaniels Mr Kyi l ) characterised as the toughest class in the Show. The field spaniel bitcli was easily tho best dog in but it had bad hind quarters. The flisfc pnz3 in tlie open cocker spaniels was won by Mr Ohas. Ride's Milford Joe, a Ohristcliuich dog. This was easily the best dog in the Show. Tlib first prize win. ning bitch in the same s.ction iiad wonderful head, but might be better in her legs. Mr Ride's veterau, Milford Judy, was second in this class. There were some splendid terriers on exhibition. The special trophy of tlie Irish Terrier Club of N.Z. for best bitch in the novice class was won by Mr R. H. Slieppard's (Devonport) Armaah Aurora. Two local owners, J. H. White aud Q. E. Trevor, Qraud Hotel, were the principal pri'z9 winners in pugs, the former taking four first* and the latter two. Mis Don Wells. Nelson, won the ladies' bracelet lor best sporting dog, and Mrs Guo. Lewis, (Jhristchnrch, tlie la.lies' bracelet for the best non sporting dog. Mr F. B. Watson's bulldogs won prizes for best non-spoitiug teams aud brace, and Mr T. H. Richards, the best sporting brace. Mr 0. E, Hanson, Wellington, won tho Auckland branch of the Irish Terriers' Club's special trophy for best puppy bitch, and Mr D, T.
