MOTOR MISHAPS.
SENSATIONAL AOOIDENT. „1 1 ?' Mars ON BUNNYTHORPE-ASHHURST' ROAD. OAR PALLS OVER AN EMBANKMENT. HAMMOND THE AVIATOR AN OOOUPANT.' A sensational motor car aooident' oocnrred on tba Bunnythorpe-Ash. • hnret road this evening. Mr MoGrepor, of Wanganui, was driving • lu's 40 h. p. car from Wanganui to Grey town, the party consisting of Mr J. Hammon-J, the aviator, Mr Bathgate, a well-known solicitor of' Masteitou, and Mr Irvine, chaffenr... When the acoiient ooourred the oar was travelling fairly fast over some rongh metal. The car skidded and' turned turtle, and was preoipitated, over a 10-foot embankmeut. The ooonpants were all thrown out, and. were more or less seriously injured. Mr McGregor, who was driving,, sustained a bad fracture of the leg above the ankle. Mr Hammond was severely brnised and stnnned. Mr Bathgate was rendered nnconsoions for a time, and Mr Irvine esoaped With a few braises, managing to leap from the car before it tamed tnrtle. Dr Willis, of Wilding, was cook mnnioated with and went out in his. oar and took Mr McGregor and Mr Hammond into Feilding, and later Messrs Wackrill and Stewart proceeded to the sceue of the accident and brought Mr Irvine in.
Mr Bathgate, on recovering consciousness, got up and walked 'away in the direction of Ashhurst, and has, not since been seen, It is supposed that he spent tlie night at a neighbouring farm house. Messrß Wackrill and Stewart left Failding at a late hour for Palmerston for their motor lorry, on which they propose to take the damaged, oar into Feildiug.
A COLLISION. OAR AND MOTOR OYOLE MEET SMASH UP ON THE AWAHURi: '_— RUAD ' Another accident ocourred yesterday afternoon on the Awahuri road, when a motor cyole, ridda by a Feilding resident named Young, while turning a corner quickly, collided with a new Ford car being driven by a well-known Feilding motorist. The oar was only slightly damaged, but the motor oycle was. badly smashed, the front wheel being completely buckled and the maohine being otherwise injured. The motor cyclist sustained a severe cut on the lips, necessitating several stitches. .
