At the half-yearly meeting of the Kauri Timber Company; the oliairmau,.in deolariug a dividend lot tha half-year at a rate of 8 pet c&hfc. per annum, referred to the statement made at the previous meeting that there was a falling off nf profits last year, whioh he attributed to having to out np a large quantity of inferior logs, and that he thooght that in the future, though there was still some of the same logs to olea'r up, their influenoe on the output would be a : diminishing one. The figures for the put six months showed that his anticipations were being realised, and they were now in apposition to keep the mills' supplied with a better average of logs. In anticipation of tho exhaustion of the baori bush in the not very distant future it had been the polioy of the company for some years'past to strengthen their interests m other New Zealand timbers, with a view to protecting the life of the company. The recent rains in New Zealand had brought down a supply of loga, enabling them to start £ome of the idle mills and keep going for a few months. The business of the past sit months was very active and there were sufficient orders to -hand to lead them to expeot that the turnover this year would be considerably in excess of last year.
