THE COUNCIL, THE RATEPAYERS, AND THE PRESS.
To the Editor Manawatn Timos.
Sir—lu this morning's issue of your paper I notice that the Borough Oounoil at its mooting hist night thought fit to exclude, not ouly the public, but the Press, while a certain matter was disouased. Not only was this a decided siur on the Press representatives present bat it seems that ratepayers are not to kuow w'mfc tho Council which they elect are doing. It would ha interesting to ratepayers to kuow what this mysterious businosa was which required so much secrecy, and why Or. Haydon was'so afraid o( this particular business seeing the light of day. Sorely ratepayers are "entitled to know what busing is beiufc transacted, and I trust some satisfactory explanation will b8 forthcoming for this extraordinary behaviour.-I am, Ok,,
RATEPAYER, Palmerston, August 2.
