"TREE MANGLING."

MR TASKBB AND MISS GLEN' DINNING.

To the Editor Manawatn Times.

Sir.—l was very lnaoh surpristd to read Mr Tasker's uagallant attack upon Miss Glendiuning in today's paper and would like to know whether it was approved by the Beautifying Society, sb th.s gentleman signs it as secretary of the Society. I should have imagined that before an officer of a society would write such a thing iu its name he would consult his committee bo I suppose we are to take it for granted that Mr Tasker did so and that hiß letter was the result. If that was so I must say that I never saw a ruder or more bad-tempered epistle. It is positively "snappy." Miss Glendiuning is spoken of as though she had done nothing for this town whereas I question very muoh whether Mr Tasker has ever rendered it anything like the services that Miss Glendinning has done in her quiet way and a good many, of we women who know what she has done are proud of it. As for trees, I have always understood that Miss Glendinning's people held responsible positions in connection with the management of Lord Rosebßry's famous Dalineuy Estate, where they do know how to grow and care trees if thoy know how to do so anywhere, and that anyone who has been iu Scotland knows.-More power to Miss Glendiuning I say, for her pluck iu regard to these trees, or anything else that she thinks wrong.—l am, etc.,

A FELLOW-COUNTRYWOMAN, • Palmerstoc, August 1.
