RAILWAY MATTERS.
Wo suggested the other day that Palmerston deputations should be careful how they abused a lailway tinie-table that ; n its general scheme was most favourable to the tov ; n however they might wish to improve details. The Feilding Mar quoted this aud said that evidently Palmerston was gettiug soared. Mr Millar gave the deputation yseterday a little glimpse of the truth of what we said when he showed that Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay are both urging him to start the East and South bound trains from Woodville instead of from Palraerstou, that tho stock centre to be established may be either Feilding or Mar ton or Palmerston, and that deputations declare to him that they don't want facilities for getting here but want them to Napier aud Mastertou. Mr Hodder's extraordinary and very out-of-place attack on the Railway Minister as uu employer yesterday! is the sort of thing also that may easily do harm. Admittedly the railway buildings are not adequate, but to say that auyone would get into gaol for that degree of crowding of olerks is absurd, and Mr Millar had just informed Mi Hodder that he was going to give more accommodation. Mr Millar also told his Worship that he will have eleocrio bells put at the two crossings at the Square and also at West street whioh will be mug from the signal box as trains approaoh, to increase publio safety. Minor matters at the railway station aro also to be improved so that Feilding and Pclmerston aro both to benefit; from tho visit.
